The classic Rajasthan circuit in heritage hotels, with a private desert camp far from the tourist dunes and two full nights in every city so the days never become a checklist.

Rajasthan is best in long, slow sips. This route gives every city at least two nights, stays in family-run heritage hotels and palaces, and runs in the right order: Jaipur, the lakes of Udaipur, the blue city of Jodhpur, and the golden fort of Jaisalmer.

It ends in the desert, at a private camp a long way beyond the tourist dunes — folk musicians from a nearby village, dinner under the stars and nothing to hear afterwards but the wind.

  • 01Desert nights from December to February drop to 5°C — pack a warm jacket.
  • 02Palaces and temples need covered shoulders and knees; leather items aren't allowed inside Ranakpur.
  • 03November's Pushkar fair and March's Holi are wonderful but book out months ahead.
