Leh, Nubra and a night on Pangong Tso
Our most-travelled Ladakh route, paced properly: two slow days in Leh, then over the world's highest roads to the dunes of Nubra and a night beside Pangong's changing blue.
This is the route we'd plan for a friend on their first trip to Ladakh. It starts slowly on purpose: two unhurried days in Leh while your body adjusts to 3,500 metres, with nothing more strenuous than a sunset walk to Shanti Stupa.
Then the high road. Khardung La to the sand dunes and double-humped camels of Nubra, the Shyok river road to Pangong — where you sleep beside the lake instead of seeing it on a day trip — and back over Chang La to Leh.
Private, 2–6 travellers
Your driver meets you at the airport. The rest of the day is for resting, drinking water and resisting the urge to explore. A light dinner at the hotel; early night.
