(01)The journey
The full circuit, in the right direction: up gradually through the apple country of Kinnaur, into Spiti's thousand-year-old monasteries, and out over Kunzum La past Chandratal.
We run Spiti clockwise: in from Shimla through Kinnaur and out over Kunzum La to Manali. The climb is gentler this way, so your body arrives in Kaza already used to the altitude.
Nights are split between small hotels, a family homestay in Langza and a camp near Chandratal, so you see how people actually live in the valley — and eat far better than you would anywhere else.

- 01Kunzum La usually opens in June; before then we run the trip in and out via Kinnaur.
- 02Homestay bathrooms are simple and sometimes shared — clean, warm, and part of the experience.
- 03Mobile coverage is limited to BSNL and Jio in Kaza. Expect to be offline for a few days.
