(01)The journey

A night in Nongriat at the foot of the double-decker root bridge, a riverside camp at Shnongpdeng and the waterfalls of Sohra — the Northeast at its most astonishing.

Meghalaya surprises everyone. This journey takes you from Shillong's cafés to the gorges of Sohra, down more than three thousand steps to spend a night in Nongriat beside the double-decker living root bridge, and onto the glass-clear Umngot river at Dawki.

It's an active trip, and the night in the village is simple — but it's the part people remember, because you see the bridges before the day visitors arrive and after they've gone.
